Classical Warrior Tradition of Japan
Toda-ha Buko-ryu Naginatajutsu
Toda-ha Buko-ryu is the study of a classical martial arts system (koryu) of Japan. It a 400 year old study of battlefield weaponry, tactics and etiquette. The style is based in the use of the Naginata (halberd), but also focuses on Kenjutsu (sword), Sojutsu (spear), and Kusarigamajutsu (chain & sickle). The practice consists of one- and two-person forms which have been handed down from the warrior roots of the system in the Warring States period of Japanese history. The principles, particulars and variables of distancing, timing and balance, the correct use of strength, leverage and breath control, and the different characteristics of each weapon are taught in a systematic manner.
